Accessibility

Cape Fear Regional Theatre believes that everyone should have equal access to live theatre. We are working to expand our accessibility offerings so that no barrier lies between our stage and any member of our community.

So that we can best meet your needs, please inform the Box Office of any special arrangements you may require when you make your reservation. For additional inquiries, please contact Business Manager Tierra Holmes at the link below:

Assisted Listening Devices

CFRT is equipped with an FM sound system that streams audio received from the microphones on stage directly into the headset of one of our Assistive Listening Devices (ALD). An ALD may be checked out for any performance free of charge.

Please speak with the Box Office before the start of any show to receive an ALD or request one when making your reservation. Each ALD has one of two types of headsets. The first is a single ear bud that may be worn in either ear. The second is a standard over-the-head headset that covers both ears. CFRT sanitizes each headset between uses.

You may bring your own headset if you have a preferred pair. ALDs can be held in hand or lap, clipped to a belt, or worn around the neck with a lanyard. Please speak with Box Office staff, House Management, or an usher for assistance with your ALD. Please return the ALD and accessories to the House Manager at the end of the performance.

Audio Description

CFRT provides Audio Bio for select performances throughout our mainstage season. Audio Bio is not available for each show.

What is Audio Description? CFRT’s Audio Bio is provided by Arts Access, who defines it as: Audio Bio is commentary and narration that guides the listener through the presentation with concise, objective descriptions of scenes, settings, costumes, body language, and “sight gags,” all slipped in between portions of dialogue or songs. The patron using this service wears an ear piece so they can hear the describer explain the visual events taking place, providing a more robust experience to the listener.

Wheelchair Access

CFRT’s lobby and business entrances are each wheelchair accessible. CFRT’s seating chart designates accessible seating for those with mobility disabilities. CFRT reserves the accessible seating for those with limited to full mobility disabilities. While walk-ins are always welcome at CFRT, we strongly encourage reservations for those who require this accessible seating as space is very limited. One narrow sized wheelchair is on site and available for use free of charge. Please contact the Box Office to request the use of the wheelchair.

Tours

For some, it is important to become familiar with a new space without the presence of a crowd.

Facility tours are available to those who would like to explore CFRT’s lobby and auditorium prior to attending a performance for the first time. A tactile tour gives those who are blind or have low vision a chance to explore the set and props.

Tactile tours are available on days when Audio Bio is also being offered and held within the hour leading to a performance. Accessibility tours are available only with advance notice.

Service Animals

If you plan to attend a performance with a service animal, please inform the Box Office staff when making your reservation so that we may discuss your preferred seating.
