About the show: Join Ren and his mother as they move from Chicago to a small farming town, encountering strict rules like a ban on dancing enforced by the local preacher. When Ren meets the preacher’s rebellious daughter, sparks fly, leading to a battle for reputation and freedom! Explore the heartfelt narrative of a father longing for his lost son and a young man yearning for his absent father, and experience this captivating tale 40 years after the film’s release!

**Note: Student and Public Matinees may be added after casting. 

Rehearsals are from 2:00pm – 10:00pm Tuesday – Friday and various times at the weekends. We may rehearse up to 42 hours a week. Your schedule and hours will vary depending on the size of the role. 

Pay ranges from $350 per week for local, non-union actors; $500 for out of town, non-union actors. This production is an AEA Tier 3 Guest Artists Agreement, and the weekly rate is $683.00 per week, plus per diem, health and pension. Housing for out-of-town artists is available.   

For video submissions: All video auditions should be emailed to no later than 5pm on Monday, June 17. Videos should either be submitted via Google Drive, Dropbox, or YouTube link. Please make sure the link is viewable by anyone for easy sharing amongst the team. Please include your headshot, resume, audition form, and conflict calendar (provided above) in the email. Virtual callbacks will be scheduled for Monday, June 24 between 12-5pm. If we need to schedule you for a callback appointment, you will receive an email by Friday, June 21 at 5pm.

What to prepare: Please prepare the song & sides provided for the role of your choice. Accompaniment/plunk tracks can be found here! An accompanist will be provided for in-person appointments. 

ROLES (casting non-union & AEA actors for the following roles): 

Ren McCormack (Tenor, 18-25 to play 17): Teenage boy from Chicago who moves to the small town of Bomont. Witty, energetic, charismatic. Grappling with his father walking out on the family.  Needs to be a strong actor, singer, and dancer.

Ariel Moore (Mezzo Soprano, 18-25 to play 17): The rebellious daughter of the local minister.  Thrill-seeking, but also generous and kind.  Her trouble-making is a way of processing her grief over her brother’s death. Needs to be a strong actor, singer, and dancer.

Rev. Shaw Moore (Baritone, 40’s-50’s): The powerful, traditional local church leader.  Charming, smart, empathetic – a great community leader.  But also, has refused to process the death of his son, causing him to be rigid and repressive.  Strong actor/singer.
