Cape Fear Regional Theatre Announces

Monday & Tuesday, August 11 & 12

6:00-8:00 p.m.

Starring Dirk Lumbard as P.T. Barnum

Special Choreography by Broadway's Dirk Lumbard

Cape Fear Regional Theatre    1209 Hay Street

Who: Adults and Youth age 16 and older

What: A variety of roles are available. We are looking for performers with special circus type skills (juggling, baton twirling, tumbling) as well as actors, dancers, and singers.

Barnum is the show that traces the career of the greatest showman from 1835 to the year he joined with James A. Bailey to form the Greatest Show on Earth, with beautiful songs and show stopping circus moments one after another.

Rehearsals: Are tentatively scheduled to begin August 26

Performances: Barnum is currently scheduled to run Sept 19 - Oct 5, 2008

Audition Requirements: Auditionees must prepare a 16 bar song selection. Piano accompaniment will be provided. CD player also provided. If you have a special skill such as dance, gymnastics, baton twirling, circus skills (i.e. juggling) be prepared to demonstrate these. Come prepared to dance (appropriate footwear please).

Roles available at this time include:

Chairy Barnum - female 20s-late 30s, Mezzo, sweet, kindhearted not gullible, loving, no-nonsense, utterly honest, moral

Joice Heth/Blues Singer - female, late 50s-late 60s, African-American, Alto, aura of quiet wisdom and strength, a bit world-weary, still has a spark, has seen it all, must be able to sing, training in blues/jazz vocalization, a plus;

Tom Thumb - mid 20s-mid 30s, Tenor, sweet, wholesome, loveable, open, trusting

Julius Goldschmidt/Chester Lyman- male, mid 30s- mid 50s, businesslike, bold, full of vigor and strength;

Jenny Lind - femaie, mid 20s-early 40s, Soprano, slight, slim, dainty, delicate, must be able to sing opera;

James Bailey/Ringmaster - male, early 30s-mid 40s, Baritone, trim, fit, big and welcoming personality, innate performer, ultimate emcee;

Amos Scudder - male, mid 30s -mid 50s, meek, mild mannered, a veritable everyman;

Sherwood Stratton - male, mid 40s-mid 60s, paternal, kind, good-hearted, trusting;

Mrs. Sherwood Stratton - female, mid 40’s-mid 60s, sweet, loving, maternal, very much the caretaker;

Wilton - male, mid 20s-mid 30s, chipper, energetic, with a youthful quality, very persistent;

Edgar Templeton - male, mid 30s - mid 50s, overbearing, cantankerous, pushy, shady, hard-edged;

Humbert Morrisey - male, mid 30s-mid 50s, a political big-wig type, is used to having his words listened to and respected, commands a lot of power.

Clowns, Circus Performers, Ensemble

All are welcome! No experience with Cape Fear Regional Theatre is required. Upon arrival you will be asked to fill out an audition card including contact inforamtion and theatre experience. For more information contact CFRT at 323-4234.
